Celebrate Preservation Week, April 22-28, 2018. Join the Morton-James Public Library on Monday evening, April 23, when it hosts Amy Schindler, the Director of the Archives & Special Collections at UNO Libraries, in the Kimmel Gallery. Ms. Schindler will address the topic “Caring for Personal Digital Archives.” This program is free and open to the public. It will interest anyone who would welcome expert tips and tricks to help them better care for and organize their digital materials—photos, videos, documents, websites and social media.
Ms. Schindler will draw on her many years of experience as a professional archivist. A native of Wisconsin, Ms. Schindler joined the UNO Libraries in 2014. She has a B.A. in History with a Certificate in Asian American Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and two Masters degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, one in Library & Information Science, and a M.A. in History. Schindler has served in various elected and appointed positions with the Society of American Archivists (SAA). She has also presented at several professional organizations’ conferences, including the SAA and the American Association for History and Computing. Presentation topics have ranged from outreach and documentation strategy to social media and related subjects.
The Morton-James Public Library is pleased to have the opportunity to present Ms. Schindler to Nebraska City, a community infused with abundant local history. Please mark Monday, April 23 on your calendar(s) to learn from an expert on how to best preserve your own pieces of history. Bring your examples and your questions. The program will begin at 7:00 p.m. The library is located at 923 First Corso, Nebraska City, Nebraska 68410.
Preservation Week is an initiative and observance of the Association for Library Collections and Technical Services, a division of the American Library Association. Visit the association web site http://www.ala.org/alcts/preservationweek/ to access a multitude of resources on “saving your stuff.”
